Why use Citric Acid Distiller Cleaner to clean the Water Distiller Boiling Chamber?

Citric Acid is found in lemons, limes, and other citrus fruit. Still Clean is made primarily of citric acid anhydrous. It is a safe way to clean stubborn minerals and other scale from the boiling chamber.

Is Still Clean also a distiller residue cleaner and/or descaler?

Yes. There are several commonly used terms when you are talking about cleaning your boiling chamber. Still Clean is a distiller residue cleaner which means it is formulated to clean the residue left behind in the boiling chamber during the distillation process. It is also a descaler which means the water distiller cleaner removes mineral scale. It also removes hard water deposits, chemicals and the other junk that is left in your boiling chamber.

HOW-TO Clean Your Distiller Boiling Chamber?

You can read the detailed cleaning instructions on the bottle of Still Clean, but here is how we recommend cleaning your boiling chamber. EASYClean instructions (quick cleaning overview):

STEP #1: (Always unplug your Distiller when you are working on it!) Drain your boiling chamber using the side drain. Then fill up the boiling chamber so it is 1/4 inch above the water fill line (this is easy to see because there is usually a mineral line that goes around the whole boiling chamber)

STEP #2: Add 1/4 cup of Still Clean to the boiling chamber

STEP #3: Plug in the Distiller and bring the water to a boil. Then TURN OFF the distiller by unplugging it. REMOVE DISTILLER LID and let the still clean sit in the boiling chamber for 8-12 hours.

STEP #4: Drain the dirty water from the boiling chamber. Fill up the boiling chamber, seal the lid and run your distiller as normal. DISCARD THE FIRST BATCH OF DISTILLED WATER. NOTE: If it is not as clean as you want it then repeat the cleaning process again.

Are there any alternative cleaning products to Still Clean?

Yes. White Distilled Vinegar can be used to clean the Durastill Water Distiller boiling chamber. You unplug the distiller from the power outlet. Then you drain the water out of the boiling chamber. Then you fill up the boiling chamber with White Distilled Vinegar (fill it just above the fill line inside the distiller). Then let is sit for 24 hours. Then drain the vinegar out of the boiling chamber. The vinegar does an excellent job of polishing the boiling chamber! For a detail explanation watch the "Ultimate How to clean water distiller video above".

What if the Vinegar does not remove very much of the minerals and boiling chamber build up?

Cleaning Water Distiller with Citric Acid VS Cleaning Water Distiller with Vinegar

The problem with White Distilled Vinegar most times it is not strong enough to dissolve the minerals and build up inside the boiling chamber and you end up needing to use Still Clean anyway! But at least you do have another possible cleaning option. If you are looking for a "natural clean"... remember Durastill Still Clean is made of food grade citric acid and it has one simple ingredient: U.S.P Citric Acid. I actually prefer to clean the boiling chamber once with citric acid and then a second time with vinegar. I get the benefit of the citric acid breaking up and dissolving the stubborn scale plus the benefit of the vinegar polishing the inside of the boiling chamber! When I'm all finished the distiller look brand new and sparkling clean!
